Brazil Missionary Update
Dear Friends, thank you for your prayers.
Here is a short update on the flood situation in southern Brazil.
It has been over a month now and some parts of the Porto Alegre metropolitan area are still under water. People are just unable to return home... over 600,000 are still displaced or living in shelters, 172 died and 42 are missing. The International airport is closed and will remain so through December. A large number of roads, bridges, hospitals and public buildings were destroyed and need now to be rebuilt. It’s a disaster of unimaginable proportions. Thank you for praying for the people of southern Brazil.
The Word of Life team in Porto Alegre continues to bring relief and eternal hope to people affected by this crisis. Every day a number of volunteers go to different locations to clean houses, distribute food/medications, pray and share the Gospel with those in need. Tons of donations coming from different parts of Brazil have been distributed so far. It first arrives at the camp property, our team sorts it out, packs it in smaller kits and its taken wherever it's most needed.
Thank you for your financial support! We are so grateful we have reached our goal. All funds needed for this first urgent phase has been reached - Praise the Lord. This gives us the capacity of supporting staff and volunteer's work for 8 weeks total. THANK YOU so much for giving! We are so thankful for that!
Some of you I know wanted to be part but didn’t have the chance yet. Here is an additional project we have for you: during the month of July we normally run camps for local Bible Club partner churches. Due to the floods many churches have canceled and are not able to come - we totally understand. Our new plan now is to run DAY CAMPS specially designed for children living in shelters or affected by the floods. The goal is to reach a total of 640 kids during the month of July. They will come to our property for one day of camp. We will provide transportation to camp and back, have trained staff ready, feed 3 meals/lunch, run fun activities the whole day and share the clear Gospel through creative ways targeting the different ages. By doing so we believe we can bring hope and relief to many kids affected by the floods. Would you pray for that?
