Marriage is a Metaphor

Jan 25, 2026    Pastor Joshua Hurlburt

Marriage serves as God's primary metaphor to help us understand His love and character. Through the unity of two becoming one, marriage reflects the Trinity's nature. The sacrificial love required in marriage mirrors Christ's complete sacrifice for the church on the cross. The faithfulness expected in marriage points to God's unwavering commitment to never abandon us. Throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, God uses marriage imagery to reveal Himself. At the cross, Jesus made wedding vows to His bride, the church, promising never to leave us and sacrificing everything for our sake. This divine marriage proposal requires our response.
